DOW-UAP-D098 — Film Analysis of Unidentified Objects, 1953 | PURSUE Release 05 Analysis

A 1953 Naval Photographic Interpretation Center memo assessing two films of unidentified objects shot over Montana and Utah in 1950 and 1952.

DOW-UAP-D098 is an official document in PURSUE Release 05, published by the U.S. Department of War on August 7, 2026 at war.gov/UFO. Agency of origin: Department of War. Incident date: 1950, 1952 · Montana, Utah.

These are the Great Falls (Montana, 1950) and Tremonton (Utah, 1952) films — two of the most-studied early US movie-film cases. Navy photo analysts concluded the objects were inconsistent with known natural phenomena or aircraft of the day, and recommended a better-resourced investigation.

Why this matters: Release 05 puts the government’s own contemporaneous analysis of these landmark films into the public record — primary-source material behind cases usually seen only through second-hand summaries.

SkyLens catalogs every PURSUE record as an unresolved case — the government states it cannot make a definitive determination on the phenomena. Nothing in these files has been officially concluded to be extraterrestrial. Read the primary source and judge for yourself.
